Torturer extending the duration of Corrosive Touch and Corrosive Spray to 3 turns has been really useful for my solo pan-and-shield meme build, because it makes it line up perfectly with invisibility. There’s nothing wrong with playing the combat in a more casual way, of course, but doing so does legitimately change the value landscape. That suggests to me that the people who are continuing to play on Classic after their first playthrough are getting enjoyment from playing and engaging with the fights in a different way. Point is, my brain wanted to tryhard the fights, and I knew too much about how to do that to be able to play that way enjoyably on Classic. I did enjoy exploring all of the story paths and experimenting with abilities I hadn’t used before. I made a rule where I wasn’t allowed to pre-position or pre-buff (though I did still do sneak entries on my rogue, who wore level 8 armor for the whole game). I didn’t upgrade gear unless I liked the way the new gear looked with the rest of my character’s outfit. I did stuff like load up on Memory and memorize everything I could conceivably want to use ever, for convenience and because it lowered my damage attributes. It was actually kind of a struggle to get through the end of the game because the fights were so boring. It was still way too easy I just couldn’t turn off the part of my brain that wanted to optimize my skill usage in fights. I actually used Ifan’s Soul Wolf, frequently. I had RP in his fighter preset but leveled geo above warfare. I tried to grow builds from the characters’ default classes and try silly stuff that I knew was deeply suboptimal. So I thought I Story difficulty would be appropriate so I could chill out on the combat and scratch that itch in our co-op Tactician run. The whole purpose of the run was to maximally explore the characters’ story content, because I hadn’t been able to do that as much as I wanted in co-op play. My second playthrough was originally on Story difficulty, having done the first playthrough on Classic with my partner. You can still apply the same strategies at lower levels of difficulty, but who would want to? If you knew you wanted to play very tactically, why play on a lower difficulty? But after that, anyone can get value from it if they have the patience (and the desire) to figure out good positioning. GC is a bad idea for first-time players, because knowing when and where the fights are going to happen is pretty important. If you have multiple GC characters in the same party, then you’ll probably need multiple sneak entries. GC rogues are a bit riskier, but you can use sneak entry to the fight with high initiative to get back-to-back turns and then go invisible and skip/delay until you have resources to do stuff again. This is a bit easier if you have Ambidextrous though. The hard part is keeping enough odd-AP abilities off cooldown to use up your points every turn (in my experience, anyway). It’s honestly not that difficult for ranged characters: high enough initiative to go first -> take high ground -> profit. You just need to play to not get hit (unless you want to). You don’t need to play anywhere near optimally to get value from GC. Imma make a modification on u/Drolws’s statement: if you play carefully with your positioning, and controlling initiative and enemy vision, then you can very nearly eliminate the downsides of Glass Canon, and it’s very strong.
